One thing I want to tell you guys is that when you are selecting the school to apply to..and cancelling school cause they are too expensive pls look at the tution fees per credit hr..like when i chose WPI..the total cost projected was some 20 grands ..later i saw that that the tution per credit was abt 650$..thats quite a lot ..i mean USC which is suppose to be expensive ..had atution per credit of 720$..sdo i would basically save some 100$ per sem..thats not much if u compare the ranking of the two schools....usc is 12th and wpi is 98th..so pls..see to it that u see the tution per credit..and try to compare and sdee..whether ur paying less is really worth the diff..i mean if u saving little..and compromising too muych in the ranking then its not worth it....hope ive not confused u....

Mail Indian students in US colleges to find out which particular concentration areas are good in there respective colleges. This helps a lot in finally deciding which colleges to app to......provided of course you know your area of interest

I took the TOEFL later and it didn't affect my admissions though I did get my accepts a little later than everybody else.i would advise the Toefl to be taken well in advance. Also , I was rejected by UW-madison first and now I'm going there! So if you feel you deserve an accept(or actually even if you're really desparate for 1) don't hessitate to question the reason for your reject and ask them to re-consider.

Please do not sit quiet even with good acads. Please mail professors. No prof. really reads your file unless its fed to him/her personally .Don’t imagine a place where all the proffs congregate and decide upon the applications and research/teaching assistantships. I personally feel I didnt do this bit and so im having a hard time with aid. Its not dfficult to get aid if you mail consistently and show a lot of genuine interest. Just do it!
DEEPA KALANI
Apply early (even if you are not applying for aid). I got a reject from Virginia Tech because there was no space available ( I sent my packages around Jan 20th).
KARISHMA SHARMA
Try and communicate with the profs or admission coordinators/counselors (preferably indian) of the concerned university indicating your profound interest in the course you have applied for. dont hesitate writing a long email (for the first time) introducing yourself, your interests and your awareness about your field. it gives a good impression about you and shows that you are 'really' keen to pursue the program. just another point to better your application packet. good luck!
SONAL RAMNANI
Try giving the TOEFL alongwith TWE. The best time to give the TOEFL is August. That way, there is no hurry in getting the scores. Oct. gets too late.
SHANNON QUADROS
Avoid the texas colleges unless one is exceptionally qualified as their application fees alone could be used to apply to two whole colleges.Avoid the TSE also unless necessary as you will have to repeat it in the US. Last but not the least do not feel too afraid to try and apply to one or two highly ranked colleges, you just might get in.
SHILPA REGE
I just wanna say...that it is never too late...to apply...!!! I took my GRE on the 1st of March... and i started sending my apps in the end of march...sent my last app on 4th may...i don't think too many ppl get aid anyways... so ppl shldnt think its too late to apply... Also.....ppl shldnt be afraid to stray frm norms...I took IE though no one else did...an i am happy i did..!!!! all the best to everyone..!!!!!!!!
